About

Hi, I'm Alissa, the owner of Mindful Motion. I have a  Bachelor of Exercise Science and a Master's in Occupational Therapy from The University of Sydney, and I am passionate about supporting children in developing the skills they need to thrive.

As a mother of five, I understand how important it is to take a nururing and individualised approach to therapy. I believe in play-based, engaging, and neuro-affirming strategies that empower both children and families to build confidence and independence.

At Mindful Motion, we provide occupational therapy in our sensory gym, or through mobile services in homes, schools and community settings across Wollongong and its surrounds. We also offer telehealth sessions based on individual suitabiliiy.

Outside of work, I love going to the gym, and exploring the outdoors with my family, including my dog Koda. I am excited to support your child's journey as they discover their strengths, build confidence, and achieve their goals.

Approach

Our approach is centered around enabling development, celebrating diverse ways of being, positive self-identity, self-advocacy and engagement in meaningful activities for well-being.

THERAPY PROCESS:

1. ASSESSMENT AND GOAL SETTING

  • Comprehensive discussion to get to know you and your support network with a focus on identifying strengths and areas of need.

  • Collaborative goal setting

  • Specific assessments where indicated to guide intervention and to measure outcomes.

2. THERAPY PLANNING

  • Therapy plans are designed together with the individual and their carer, in consideration of their unique abilities, circumstances, needs, and best available evidence.

  • Therapy plans are designed to be fun, incorporating meaningful activities for optimal engagement and outcomes.

4. THERAPY SESSIONS

  • Therapy sessions are provided in our sensory gym, or an environment of choice (home, school, or work), in person or via telehealth.

  • Session frequency and duration is decided with the individual and their carers based on needs and preferences.

  • We embrace a collaborative model of care. With consent, we make regular contact with other relevant supports to provide consultation and multidicipiplinary intervention.

3. REGULAR REVIEWS

  • We will complete regular informal assessments through observation and discussions with carers to evaluate progress and adjust therapy plans as needed.

  • Further formal assessments may be completed where beneficial for planning and evaluating outcomes.
